New Delhi: On October 17, elections will be held for the election of the new President of Congress. Notification regarding this election was issued on Thursday. The notification was issued by the Central Election Authority headed by senior party leader Madhusudan Mistry. According to the announced schedule for the election of the Congress President, after the issuance of the notification, the process of filing nominations will start from tomorrow, which will continue till September 30. The last date for withdrawal of nominations has been kept on October 8, while in case of more than one candidate, voting will be held on October 17 and the results will be declared on October 19.

On Wednesday, a day before the notification was issued, the possibility has become strong after Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and senior party leader Shashi Tharoor gave a clear indication of entering the election season that the country’s oldest party chief after 22 years. Ashok Gehlot, who arrived in Delhi on Wednesday to meet Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi, said that he would accept the party’s decision, but before that he would make one last attempt to persuade Rahul Gandhi to become the president.
